November Ring Report

The Ring met on October 5th with a great turnout of members. We had a discussion of our upcoming public show to raise money for the Susquehanna Valley High School's music department. We also discussed the Paul Gertner lecture we are planning.  I am just going to highlight the performances which included Chris Sablich doing a card trick from this months linking ring.  Me, Dan Young, doing Zone Zero. Dick Gusefski performing the square circle. David Black did the "Disecto" arm chopping illusion and Nate Hickey doing a nice card effect "search and destroy" by Aaron Fisher.
On Friday October 16th Ring 79 presented "Stage Fright" a magic show at Susquehanna Valley High School headlined by David Black. Many of our members participated either performing, back stage or doing close up. The night was a huge success. The Ring especially thanks David Black for the generous donation of his time talent and magic props. By the end of the night I heard a few members commenting about how much work it was to pack everything back up (a tribute to how much David does every time he puts on a show).
On October 19th we hosted a lecture by Paul Gertner. Paul is a consummate performer, a real pro! He first wowed the crowd with a performance, finishing with his steel cups and balls, then he went on to his lecture. After the first half he had a drawing and gave away one of his new effects. In the second half he more effects that could be done on stage ending with a demonstration of how he makes his magic effective for corporate presentations with excellent patter. It showed us how our own effects could be adapted to an audience.
The Ring then met on November 2nd for our monthly meeting. We showed parts of the DVD from the evening show we did last month. It was reported that the ring made more money than expected from the event and that we got a lot of compliments from the sponsors. We are going to make this an annual event. Again a brief list of performers: Me doing "same time, same place" by Aldo colombini, Nate with a nice card effect where four cards identify the spectators card but then they become the 4 aces, Gary Freed did the super triple coin trick and then he did "Phil Plus", Craig Kunkle performed a card effect where 2 spectator chosen cards appear between the jacks and then he did a twisting effect with the 4 queens with a patter about meeting women, Tim Moore did some voodoo street magic from David Blaine's new book and finally Brian Loeffler made a chose card appear inside his sealed bottle of water.  Sorry for the long report but there is a lot happening here in the Triple Cities.
