March 2010

Our meeting in March was well attended with over 20 attendees. Nate Hickey brought a guest, Derek Mignerey, who we hope to see again at our next meeting. We were all happy to see member Bea Van Ness since she has not been able to attend many meetings lately. She brought some of her magic inventory that she was selling off so that she can downsize a little so many of us picked up some bargains. After some mingling our president Chris Sablich started the business by opening the nominations for officers which will be voted on at next months meeting. The present slate of officers was renominated and everyone accepted their nominations. Next David Black discussed some upcoming opportunities for the ring members to perform some magic at area events. Then we talked about this years production of our public show at Susquehanna Valley High School. Since last years inaugural show was such a success we want to do it again and hope to get even more participation by members. Next we informed everyone about our upcoming lecture by Tim Ellis on April 28th. That concluded our business so the meeting adjourned.

Performances were started by new member Bob Bennett. He made his $1 bill switch places with spectators $5 bill with a nice little patter about a bet with his son that he could hit the light switch and get into bed before the light went out. He then proceeded into a routine where a packet of $1 bills changes into a packet of $5 bills. Next up was David Black with a routine where the everyone in the audience gets slips of paper and writes down the place, weapon and person for a crime. All the slips are put into a bag and a spectator pulls out one of each color and amazingly they match his prediction. A nice routine that can be altered to fit the audience. Then Doug Welch performed a 4 coins across routine that he says was inspired by a Billy McComb routine. I have seen a lot of coins across and have to say that this one was a good routine and well done. Jon Harris did Powerball 60 in which he give spectator several scratch off lottery cards. Spectator gives magi all the cards that have his thought of number on them and the magi divines his thought of number. I performed "Deep guilt aces" by David Regal and then Gary Freed changed a one dollar bill into a mismade bill and back again. Next up was Elijah Maurer doing a nice little sponge bunny routine producing several baby bunnies. And to finish the night Nate Hickey performed a cards across routine from Daytona Magic in which the spectators cards vanish from one pile and end up in the other pile.

We all had a good time and look forward to next months meeting.
