December 2011
We had a great meeting in December, I hope you didn't miss it. The ring is organizing a one day event which is exciting. Alex Boyce and David Black are working on plans to have the event in May. Next we discussed holding a holiday party in January with a potluck supper and of course some magic for entertainment. A suggestion came up to have a banner produced with our name, emblem and maybe a slogan to display when members perform at events. A motion was made and passed to authorize up to $100 to have the banner produced. Then we got right into the performances and to start us off was Rich Krushansky with a jumbo card a deck of cards called Straight Wild. Then Alex Boyce wowed us by first producing a deck of cards then the box vanished, he used the deck to perform "The Sound of Magic" by Alaine Choquette. 4 spectators pick cards, they go back in the deck and then he finds them by listening to the deck but when the cards are turned over they have become the aces. Phil Messina was next so he used the white board to write down a bunch of numbers which the spectator eliminated by random choice and the final # led to the special envelope on the table. A new youth member Matt Townsend age 11 did a nice job with the card effect "Blindsided" by Oz Perlman and then he did the 21 card trick. Very nice work by this youngster with a future in magic. An envelope brought out by Chester Delameter contained large pictures. He let any letter be called out and the picture matched the letter. This was followed by Gary Freed doing a couple effects - Double Decker by phoenix which is hard to describe but worth its weight. And a sweet monte effect by Garrett Thomas which has 3 queens and 3 fours that move around to the spectators amazement. Doug Welch went with the holiday theme presenting 4 blank cards and when the spectator narrowed it down to one it was the only one with "Holiday Greetings" on it. Continuing with the theme Dick Gusefski used some mini cake pans to produce a silk with a Christmas message. Back to cards with Max Henry, another youth member, doing a nice job with "Static" by David Jade and I finished it off by doing a trick from the Linking Ring's Card Corner October 2011 "JK Aitches" by J.K. Hartman. Look it up. It's easy but quite effective and by finishing with the aces you can lead into other effects. Hope you had a Happy New Year. dmYmd.
